Here I am

I’ve always liked writing and reading and all the things you can’t say in a job interview for fear of sounding like you’re too mainstream. But a number of things – there wasn’t a lot of subjects I didn’t like, the fear of being unemployed with a humanities degree, the awesomeness of saying you’re an engineer, pure laziness – meant I never got round to it.

I’ve decided to stay an anonymous being. I hope this will mean I don’t have to hold back on what I want to say and be wary of the way I want to say it. But for purposes of acknowledging my own (and lack of) privilege so you can judge my views accordingly I will say this: I am a Muslim, south asian, university educated, straight, able-bodied, cis-woman. Born in Britain from parents who migrated here. I grew up and live in London in a council house.

Quite high up on my bucket list is to publish a book. Until I find the time to get round to that I will start writing my thoughts on here. These will be random: faith, politics, feelings, short stories – this will hold it all.

We declare our right on this earth to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary. – Malcolm X
